Gastronomic Festival: in Setúbal, who has the squid is king

Go to Setúbal should always be synonymous with eating fried cuttlefish. At the time of the meal or snack, the smell of this dish, in its original version – fried, accompanied with French fries and salad or with bread – sit for the whole city and invites you to enjoy a dish that is intertwined with the traditions sadinas.

Both, the city will dedicate a festival involving more than 30 restaurants. In all, the cuttlefish is highlighted on the menu, is in version more traditional or other delicious approaches: roasted with or without ink, soaked, to the old, in stew, stewed, to alhinho and pitéu, or accompanied by beans eggs. Between 24 February and 11 march, the Festival of the Cuttlefish 2018 all these ways of enjoying the snack setubalense.

There are more than 30 years that the Cellar Leo Snack are dedicated to serving “people around the world,” the traditional dish. How could it be, the fried cuttlefish (simple, €14,50 for two persons or with chips and salad; €21,50 for two people) is the one that comes out. But every day can also be enjoyed stewed, in the pan, next to the follow-up that you prefer: French fries, baked or rice (€10 for two people).

The meal does not exempt a sweet moment. Mandatory, the “Cake wonder“, specialty delivered every day fresh, by D. Grace in the cellar adds new flavor to the tradition.

The Festival of the Cuttlefish 2018 integrates a cycle of gastronomic event promoted by the municipality. Logo at the opening, February 24, the gastronomic event offers, by 10: 00, a cooking class with the chef José Serrano and, at the closing, on the 11th of march, at 18.00, a tasting commented by the chief João Antunes. The activities, both in the House of the Bay, are of free attendance upon registration, respectively, up to day 22 February and 8 march, at Tel. 265 545 010.

The initiative is part of the municipality of Setúbal and Docapesca – with the support of the companies danisco animal nutrition and Makro – which together promote this gastronomic tradition setubalense throughout the year.

In addition to the wine Cellar Leo Snack, participate in the Festival of the Cuttlefish 2018 the restaurants at the Riverside of the river Sado, and the Museum of the Cuttlefish, among more than 30 spaces of the city.
