Pizzas on the street in Porto: Living the Day of the pizza-maker!
The good new account in a few lines of text. On the 17th of January (next Wednesday) is celebrated, for the first time in the world, the Day of the Pizzaiolo, the activity declared as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In this way, UNESCO pays homage to all the professionals that produce the true neapolitan pizza”.
In Portugal, more precisely in the city of Porto, Michele Mezzero, representative of the Associazione Pizzaiuoli Napoletani and of ASCIP Dante Aligheri, an entity founded by General Angelo Arena and dedicated to the diffusion of the language and culture transalpine, decided to celebrate the date… offering slices of pizza!
Thus, in Praça dos Leõesin Porto, will be mounted on a wood-burning oven and a sink, where multiple cooks, that constitute the ‘ Selection Portuguese Cooks” (the champion in 2017, a competition that took place in Naples) will distribute slices of the true neapolitan pizza, you just do. This great feast of pizza, will take place between 11h00 and 20h00.
The president of the Associazione Pizzaiuoli Napoletani in Portugal, stated that this event “will be the starting point for the certification of pizzerias in Portugal comply with the necessary requirements to be considered Pizzeria with Art Neapolitan”.
To better understand this connection, it should be noted that it was in 2004, that the family neapolitan Mezzero opened the first “Ristorante Pizzeria S. Martino”, situated still today, on Rua de Santo Ildefonso. Today, the family owns more than a dozen restaurants from the north to the south.
