Restaurant Oak: 25 years of regional cuisine
It was with the nerves at flower of the skin that on 8 August 1992 José Manuel Lopes de Carvalho and Ilda Wolf opened the restaurant doors Oak, the two steps of the Chaves Spa. To the extent that the lock was spinning, and had no idea they were open that day to a space that in a little time would become a culinary reference site, whose fame has spread borders, national and international.
This week, the restaurant doors Oak opened, as always, to customers who often fill the room (260 places). But, this time there was something that justified the smile redoubled of all employees. The restaurant did 25 years and confirms itself as one of the most sought after and up to the award-winning city of the Keys and of the region of Trás-os-Montes.
The confection genuine, the best regional produce and simplicity in cooking, are the secrets to the success of the restaurant Oak tree. The menu of regular, go suffering from one or the other I would add, is always, to begin with, the inevitable “Melon with ham”, “Manga with presunto”, “Salpicão”, “Sausage with turnip greens” , and also regional “roasted Sausages”.
To take the sea to Portugal deep, the restaurant Oak has a wide range of Seafood, with the“Scallop stuffed”, “Gamba tiger grilled”, “Shrimp natural”, “Prawns grilled”, and “stuffed Crab”. The fish of the charter are the “monkfish Rice with shrimps”, the “Bacalhau na brasa”, “Fillets of octopus with rice hidden” and the famous “Bacalhau à Oak”.
In the meat, under cooking Ilda Lobo, there is the obligatory “roast Kid in the oven”, “Rice smokehouse with naco veal”, “pork à Transmontana”, “Medallions of veal”, “spare Ribs of veal” and “Arroz de cabidela”. The desserts feature “Migas Oak”, “Sweet of the Angels Convent”, “French toast to the Oak tree”, “Pear poached” and, among other options, “Velvety”orange.
The restaurant the Oak (grove Tabolado, Largo das Caldas, 4, Keys. Tel. 276 321 727) closed on Sunday dinner and Monday. Average price: €30.
